Is it safe to use mobile banking application on my Android smartphone?

Home >  Is it safe to use mobile banking application on my Android smartphone?
Hello, I'm using mobile banking quite often and recently I've seen that my bank has published an app for mobile banking at Google Play. I'd like to know is it safe to use those kind of applications? I'm not a really experienced user and I'm afraid that someone might be able to hack my account. What can you tell me about that?

Hello, Roger!

First of all you should know that any application may be used against you. We've recently written about the bug, found in Android OS core, that may turn any application into malicious one, so literary, it might be dangerous. Consider the fact that if you are working with relatively big sums of money – do not exchange convenience for safety. But there are a couple of things you can do to make your smartphone safer.

First of all avoid third-party application vendors and download apps only form Google Play. In that case you will probably avoid 90% of malware, because Play Market has recently implemented stricter rules for application's publishers. Second – always use the most up-to-date versions of antivirus software, though there are lots of doubts on the effectiveness of those antiviruses – they can block the most widely spread malware.

Also, you should pay attention to the rules of safe mobile banking. We do not recommend to use those mobile banking apps, because they may compromise you bank account's security. Also, avoid using your mobile banking application, when connected to the public Wi-Fi network, as long as those networks are vulnerable and hacker may be able to intercept your traffic. If you are doing so – it would be wise to have a Wi-Fi signal blocker at hand, to be able to block Internet connection of your smartphone is seconds, so your account will be safe.
